"When a soul recognises the will of God and shows a readiness to submit to it entirely, then God gives Himself to such a soul and renders it most powerful succour under all circumstances." - Rev. Jean-Pierre de Caussade

7 Quick Takes (vol.4)

Linking up with Conversion Diary

1. Since Logan was working this past weekend, Landon and I rode with my brother and his family to visit our parents for a few days. On Monday morning, my dad and I went to mass for Memorial Day. It was a special mass because afterwards, we all walked to the cemetery next door where the priest blessed all of the graves. It was a great reminder that Memorial Day is not just a "have a party and grill hamburgers" day - many families are mourning the lives lost in service to our country. After the blessing of the graves, there was a burial of babies born preterm (religious sisters from one of the local hospitals bring the babies in a tiny box, so you don't actually see them). That of course struck a chord with me because of Levi. It's hard not knowing where he is buried but I look forward to the day we see him again :)

2. Before Landon and I left for the weekend, Logan told him, "You better not walk when I'm not there!" To which I responded, "You know my dad is going to try and get him to walk!" And yes, Pops did. It was only a couple steps, but now Landon knows that walking is possible (he wouldn't even try before!). The most he's taken is 8 steps at a time. And I want it to stay that way. Ha!

3. Well, I think it's safe to say we're somewhat adjusted to Logan's schedule with his new job. Everyone always asks me if Logan likes it, so the answer is yes, he does! He helped a friend with his yard this weekend and was reminded how much he does NOT miss his old job. So that's good! I have to say, I don't think I will ever get used to the fact that we never know how much Logan will make in any given shift. Our income has never been consistent since we've been married, and it appears that it will continue to be that way for the foreseeable future. But that's okay! He has a job. We are alive and well.

4. I'm a cloth diapering addict. Okay, not really. But I was spending entirely too much time browsing this particular website and finally realized I was not going to stop until I ordered some! And I did. They are super cute, super affordable, and supports a great cause. Go check out Assunta Store! I'm still prepping my diapers so I can't vouch for how well they work yet but the reviews are great. Even if you don't cloth diaper, their wet bag is perfect for wet swimsuits (and I'm totally excited about it having 2 pockets - one for wet and one for dry!)  If you want to order something you should totally tell me so I can email you a referral link and get reward points :)

5. A couple of friends and I recently discovered FlyLady. If you find yourself completely overwhelmed with housework and everything, you should check it out. Seriously. It's amazing what a few good habits will do - keeping your sink shiny and clean, getting dressed to shoes first thing in the morning, and decluttering for 15 minutes a day. My friends and I are holding each other accountable via group text (before and after pictures are really motivating!), and it's totally changed our households in just a short time. Start with the BabySteps though - otherwise you'll get burned out!

6. Logan's birthday was this past week, Landon's birthday is this coming week, and the week after is our wedding anniversary! Three Wednesdays in a row. It's a special time of year for sure!

7. I love praying novenas, but let's be honest...I kind of suck at it. I never remember to finish all 9 days. And I tend to forget when they start (Divine Mercy is my all-time favorite but I forgot all about it this year. Fail.) BUT there is a solution! You can sign up at PrayMoreNovenas by submitting just your name and email, and they will let you know when the next novena is coming up! Then they email you the day before it starts, and also each of the 9 days of the actual novena. The emails include the prayers, which is super convenient. So if you check your email everyday, you won't forget to pray! Love it. Right now we're in the middle of the Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

I'm not being compensated by any of the websites mentioned - I just love them and think you might love them too!

Photo Friday: forget you Blogger app

I'm sure you're tired of seeing blurry pictures so enough with the Blogger app....I can't promise I'll plug in my phone or camera every week to upload pictures but I'm doing it this week! And if you want to see the previous blurry pictures that are no longer blurry (since I'm awesome and updated them after I uploaded them on our computer) check out last week and the week before.
He loves food. I don't know where he puts it sometimes!
On the way to Mimi and Pops' house for the weekend, stopped at Sonic and he had to look out the window

  Fun with his cousins
Our little farmer boy...who can now take a few steps by himself!
They enjoyed banging on the piano just a little too much
Landon also loves water! We need to invest in a baby pool for the summer :)

Birthday breakfast at IHOP for Daddy :) (gotta love emails with coupons for free birthday meals)
The radio was playing music and this little boy started to dance. So.darn.cute.
His new favorite thing to do is grab the ball, stand up, throw the ball to the ground while yelling "DAAA". Then laugh and do it over again.
Logan and I went to the movies for his birthday and after the movie was over we came outside to a flood. Nice.

Standing on top of the train. Making his momma crazy.

Photo Friday: silly silly

Seriously, this is so frustrating....the pictures are still blurry! I promise they are not like that on my phone. Fixed!
Landon and his friend were getting into mischief together! They're only 2 weeks apart :)
Noanie and Paw Paw gave Landon his birthday present a little early. He LOVES this train!
Yes, he could probably walk if he wanted to - but he won't even try!
 So silly!
I promise that is not drool on his shirt. He has a little too much fun when I give him a sippy cup of water.
Sigh. So cute. (Biased mother here)
 My silly guys!
Logan was cleaning the exterior house and our driveway and Landon threw a fit when I walked back inside. So I plopped him in a stroller so he could watch his daddy...who he loves so much. :)

Someone was tired! (I swear, he sleeps in the most random places when Logan is in charge)
 They are so funny together.

Moments like this are the best!

Good reads. And my ramblings.

I want to share two blog posts that I've read recently that I think you should read too! I may or not ramble on after each one.

  • A friend sent me this one about raising little boys. To which I say AMEN! My friend said this about it that I totally agree with:  "We need to remember we don't have to apologize for age appropriate behavior. This world does enough shunning of youth as it is!" Thanks Lauren, you're so right! :)
I want to be one of the mommies that keeps her cool amidst the craziness of daily life with kids (want to be = not there yet). And no, the blogger is not saying you shouldn't discipline your kids. The point is that we shouldn't freak out over the little things. Because really, I don't want Landon to be scared to do things because Mommy might yell at him. I LOVE his curious personality, and I might have missed out on it if I was too worried about what other people think or about him making a million messes. Landon won't be a kid forever, so I want to soak up every minute!
  • I loved this blog post about making decisions, probably because we're discerning whether or not to be foster parents again. It also makes me reallllly want to go to spiritual direction again!
I just reread that one and man, those 6 questions to ask yourself are so important. The one about fear especially hit a chord with me because of the whole fostering thing. Those of you who kept up with our blog during our fostering months know fully well why there's a lot of fear surrounding this decision. And most people would probably just tell us not to worry about fostering again because there are so many things to think about (and heck, we have our own baby now)....and sure, that would be easy to do. BUT if you notice the name of this blog, I'm all about truly discerning God's will, whether it be the "easy" way or not. You can think I'm crazy all you want!

Thinking back on my life, I've made some hard decisions (and crazy decisions, where people had some not nice things to say about it), but those decisions were all made after serious prayer. I'm not perfect, though, so I've let my desires get in the way of God's promptings...which meant I chose the "easy" way instead of what I felt God calling me to, and I ended up being miserable. I don't want to do that again.

I was going to share our thoughts/concerns about fostering again but I'm sure I've bored you by now. Maybe I'll go there another day!

St. Rita, pray for us!

7 Quick Takes (vol.3)

Linking up with Jen who I wish I knew in real life (not myself, of course...another Jen).

1. Wellll I don't think I ever mentioned more about Logan's new job, soooo yeah. He is now a valet driver, which isn't his dream job obviously, but he is working for a company that gives you the opportunity to move up. So hopefully he will one day have a job related to his degree. He is so talented when it comes to filming and editing that people who didn't hire him over the last 4 years are CRAZY. But I know I am a biased wife. :)

2. With the exception of the first month of our marriage when I worked nights (*cringe*), Logan and I have always worked Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7am and 5pm. (Well, Logan used to film weddings a lot on the weekends but I'm not going to count that.) With his new job, though, his shifts are random and he works weekends. I knew it would be different, but man...I didn't expect the adjustment period to be this rough. I don't know what else to say about that without seeming totally unappreciative. Because really, I appreciate Logan's willingness to step out of his comfort zone (i.e. quit his job after 10 long years) and try something new. Love you babe!

3. Some friends and I went to a park on Friday with all of our kids and turns out they had some sort of mommy group meeting there. We didn't know that, so it kind of threw us off guard when all of these random women were introducing themselves. And then it got me thinking that I am SO grateful for my mommy friends and how we get together regularly (or try at least, ha ;))...because apparently some women have to go to certain places to make friends. Honestly, I think it's super important to have friends at the same place as you in life (married, with kids, etc.) because sometimes life is hard and it helps to have friends who totally understand! (But I totally have friends who are not married and/or do not have kids and I love them too. :))

4. Speaking of my wonderful friends, we started a book study and are currently reading Kimberly Hahn's Chosen & Cherished. Great book - I first read it when I was engaged. I'm supposed to have 2 chapters read before our next get-together tomorrow, so I should really get on that....but of course I am blogging. Now you see where my priorities are. Eh.

5. I've always wanted to write a book. Like seriously, when I was really little I wanted to write a fiction series like the Babysitters Club or Boxcar Children or something. And now I still want to write a book - but I'm not the biggest fan of fiction anymore so I'm not sure what I would write about. It's always in the back of my mind, though...

6. Maybe I should tell you some positives about Logan's job so you all don't worry about us. He has benefits (yay!), which is a big deal and something we haven't had since I worked in the hospital. We've been paying a whooooole lot of money for an individual policy with maternity and couldn't risk getting rid of the maternity part because of all of my wonderful pregnancy issues. But soon (July) we will be paying a lot less for health insurance! Yay!

7. I'm done teaching CCD for the school year, and I'm pretty sure I had my last day of work until August. And while I'm a little sad (key word = little), I'm relieved that I will have a little more time to do things this summer. But maybe not, since I'm starting to babysit a friend's kids occasionally. We shall see!

Photo Friday: I almost forgot!

Better late than never I suppose! I'm thinking life will start to slow down a little bit now...I hope...

And I don't know why but the quality of the pictures went down dramatically when I uploaded them. I blame the upgrade of the Blogger app (because it didn't do that before!) Fixed!

Landon has discovered the toilet paper.

Family Day

Life has been crazy lately (and I know it seems like I've been saying that a lot lately but it's true!) so we needed some family time! And that's what we did today. :)

First we went to this store I've been wanting to go to for awhile, and I managed to not buy anything. Go me! Then it was off to City Park for a picnic.

Aaaaand this is my new favorite picture of all of us. Love love.
Landon loves outside if you can't tell :)

Soooo we weren't planning on spending any money today, BUT we just so happened to have our picnic within walking distance of the New Orleans Museum of Art (we didn't plan that)....where they currently have an exhibit on Pope John Paul II. And while we almost didn't go because it cost $15 per adult, I'm glad we did.

Mother's Day...the best one yet!

Ever since we've been married, I was a mommy on Mother's Day but never had a baby to hold (a biological one, anyways)...and this year we have a sweet little boy for me to love on. (Good thing too, because Logan is working. Boooo.)

So I know Mother's Day is not the easiest for some people, for a variety of reasons. And while I absolutely think mothers deserve a day to be honored, I think it's important to remember those women who may be grieving (some mothers who have lost babies, some women who are wanting to be mothers).

I remember sitting in church 4 months after losing Levi, and all the mothers stood for a blessing...and it was so sad/awkward because I was a mommy but had no baby so do I stand or not? So I totally think it would be awesome if priests would also acknowledge the fact that some women are in pain on Mother's Day (maybe some priests do, but I haven't witnessed it).

All of that being said, though, I read yesterday about how we shouldn't make Mother's Day about ourselves...it should be about our mom. And I so wish I would have had that mindset 2 and 3 years ago. (I should also say that some people's moms are no longer with us, and I can't imagine how hard that is. But it's still a perfect day to remember and honor those wonderful women! As well as any women who serve as spiritual mothers, foster moms, the list goes on...)

To my wonderful mommy, I love you! I honestly don't know what I would do without you :)
(Sorry the first picture is so outdated, we need to take more pictures together!)

Photo Friday: just loving life!

It doesn't matter how many times I make Marley get off Landon's chair...she still sneaks back to lie down on it.

And perhaps that's why Landon crawled into Marley's kennel...while she was in it.

The boy loves outside

Oh yes. My days are fun :)

Baked potato with leftover crawfish. Mmmmm.

Gotta love the overalls!
